Business
Naked Wines plc engages in the direct-to-consumer retailing of wines and spirits, operating primarily in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia. The company offers a wide range of alcoholic beverages including red wine, white wine, rosé, sparkling wine, dessert wine, champagne, organic and vegan wines, along with wine accessories such as electronic corkscrews, decanters, bottle openers, wine racks, and related gadgets. Naked Wines funds independent winemakers upfront, enabling them to focus on production while delivering wines at fair prices to its customers, called Angels, who have access to over 250 winemakers and more than 2,500 wines sourced from 23 countries. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Norwich, Greater London, the UK, Naked Wines is a leading player in the fast-growing direct-to-consumer wine market. Recent major changes include a strategic leadership rebuild with Rodrigo Maza appointed as CEO and Dominic Neary as CFO, alongside the appointment of Jack Pailing as Non-Executive Chair in July 2025. The company has focused on stabilizing its financial position through inventory reduction, unlocking cash from surplus stock, and recalibrating its business model around profitable customers, targeting £70m cash generation and a disciplined approach to customer acquisition. Naked Wines implemented a new strategic plan in 2025 to release working capital, refine its customer focus, and achieve sustainable top-line growth with a renewed emphasis on customer retention and acquisition discipline. It has made significant operational improvements, including a 16% reduction in general and administrative costs year-over-year, supporting improved cash flow and financial health. Naked Wines plc’s business model involves upfront funding of independent winemakers and direct sales to consumers, eliminating traditional intermediaries to enhance value and choice. Its product portfolio spans multiple wine categories and includes specialty products, seasonal offerings, and wine gift packages. The company serves a dedicated membership community across key English-speaking markets, supporting winemakers during crises and promoting sustainable and socially responsible practices in its supply chain. Naked Wines plc continues to evolve through data-led strategies, customer-centric operations, and a commitment to empowering independent producers while expanding its presence in the UK, US, and Australian markets.
