AO Railways of Yakutia (MOEX: ZHDY), officially known as Joint Stock Company Aktsionernaya Kompaniya Zheleznye Dorogi Yakutii, is a Russian railway transport and infrastructure company that provides freight and passenger rail transportation services, multimodal logistics solutions, and railway infrastructure maintenance across the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Russian Far East. Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Aldan, Russia, the company operates as a joint venture primarily owned by the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Russian Railways (JSC RZD). AO Railways of Yakutia manages and operates the Amur-Yakutsk Mainline railway section connecting Berkakit, Aldan, Tommot, and the terminal logistics station at Nizhny Bestyakh, linking regional industrial centers with the Baikal-Amur Mainline and Trans-Siberian networks. The company operates through three principal business segments: Freight Transportation, Passenger Services, and Infrastructure and Technical Services. The company provides a comprehensive suite of rail and logistics services, including: freight rail transportation and dispatching for industrial and commercial cargoes, such as coal, refined petroleum products, liquefied hydrocarbons, construction materials, mining machinery, timber, and essential consumer goods; scheduled passenger rail services connecting Nizhny Bestyakh and Aldan with major regional transport hubs, including Tynda, Neryungri, Blagoveshchensk, Khabarovsk, and Vladivostok; multimodal passenger transit services integrating rail ticketing with river ferry, hovercraft, and bus connections across the Lena River to Yakutsk; railway infrastructure engineering, track construction, trackbed maintenance, and signalling systems operation; locomotive and rolling stock leasing, depot overhauls, locomotive modernization, and technical inspections; and terminal cargo handling, freight forwarding, container storage, and transshipment operations at intermediate and terminal railheads. In recent operational and strategic developments, AO Railways of Yakutia has expanded its transport infrastructure and cargo throughput capacity, focusing on the enhancement of the Nizhny Bestyakh multimodal logistics hub to support Northern Delivery operations and cargo consolidation for the Northern Sea Route. The company has engaged in strategic cross-border infrastructure initiatives, including advancing joint project development for the proposed Dzhalinda-Mohe international railway bridge connection between Russia and China to facilitate direct export of minerals and energy resources from South Yakutia. Furthermore, AO Railways of Yakutia has advanced rolling stock modernization programs, including the introduction of heavy-duty diesel locomotives adapted for extreme low-temperature Arctic operations, the testing and deployment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered locomotives, and the launch of expanded long-distance passenger routes across the Far Eastern Federal District alongside preliminary planning for the future rail line extension toward Magadan.
