McPhy Energy S.A. was a prominent European entity specializing in the design, manufacturing, and integration of equipment for low-carbon hydrogen. The company provided a comprehensive portfolio of alkaline electrolyzers, essential for hydrogen production, alongside solutions for hydrogen storage. Its innovative systems supported diverse applications across industrial processes, energy stabilization, and hydrogen mobility sectors. With development and production facilities strategically located across France, Italy, and Germany, McPhy maintained a broad commercial presence globally. In recent strategic developments, McPhy divested its hydrogen refueling station business in July 2024 to sharpen its focus exclusively on electrolyzer technology, further underscored by the inauguration of its first Gigafactory in Belfort, France in 2024 for large-scale electrolyzer production. However, McPhy Energy S.A. underwent a judicial reorganization, converting to liquidation, with John Cockerill Hydrogen acquiring the majority of its assets, including the Belfort Gigafactory, in July 2025.
