Business
Matador Resources Company (NYSE: MTDR), an independent energy company headquartered in Dallas, Texas and founded in 2003, engages in the exploration, development, production and acquisition of oil and natural gas resources primarily in the oil and liquids-rich portions of the Wolfcamp and Bone Spring plays in the Delaware Basin of southeast New Mexico and west Texas; the Eagle Ford shale play in south Texas; and the Haynesville shale and Cotton Valley plays in northwest Louisiana. The company operates through two segments, Exploration and Production, which focuses on oil and natural gas resource activities including drilling, completing and equipping wells, and selling natural gas to unaffiliated independent marketing and midstream companies; and Midstream, which provides natural gas processing, oil transportation services, oil, natural gas and produced water gathering services, and produced water disposal services to support its own operations and third parties through assets such as San Mateo Midstream, LLC, a 51%-owned joint venture with an affiliate of Five Point Energy LLC. Geographically, Matador conducts operations across the United States with a core emphasis on the Delaware Basin, maintaining over 200,000 net acres of high-quality land holdings enhanced by targeted leasing and brick-by-brick acquisition strategies. Recent major developments include the completion of a $1.83 billion acquisition of Ameredev II assets in September 2024, adding high-quality Delaware Basin producing properties, undeveloped acreage, significant reserves and an approximate 19% stake in the Piñon natural gas processing facility to expand its midstream footprint and production profile; the successful closure in December 2024 of the contribution of its wholly-owned Pronto Midstream, LLC to San Mateo Midstream, yielding an upfront cash payment of approximately $220 million to strengthen its balance sheet through credit facility debt repayment plus up to $75 million in performance-based incentive payments over five years tied to operational execution in northern Lea County, New Mexico; over $125 million in additional Delaware Basin transactions during the third quarter of 2025; record production levels surpassing 209,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in recent quarters driven by Ameredev integration and new wells like Firethorn and Pimento; and strategic natural gas marketing updates including new transportation and processing arrangements.
