Business
Malayan United Industries Berhad is a diversified investment holding company engaged in retail, hospitality, food and confectionery manufacturing, property development and investment, and financial services. Founded in 1960 and headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the company operates across domestic and international markets, with primary business activities spanning Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Australia, and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The company operates through five core business segments: Retail; Hospitality; Food and Confectionery; Property Development and Investment; and Financial Services and Investment Holding. The Retail division manages department stores and specialty lifestyle retail outlets under the Metrojaya brand, offering ladieswear, menswear, childrenswear, footwear, cosmetics, fragrances, and home furnishings, alongside retail merchandising and licensing operations. The Hospitality division owns, manages, and operates full-service hotels, boutique properties, and leisure resorts under the Corus Hotels brand, offering guest accommodation, dining, conference, and banquet facilities across the United Kingdom and Malaysia. The Food and Confectionery division, operated primarily through Network Foods, manufactures, markets, and distributes chocolate and confectionery products under proprietary brands such as Crispy, Tango, Tudor Gold, and Kandos, while also providing regional fast-moving consumer goods distribution and marketing services. The Property Development and Investment division undertakes master-planned township developments, commercial real estate projects, and property asset management, anchored by the Bandar Springhill integrated township in Negeri Sembilan, commercial properties including Menara MUI, and real estate assets across Australia and the United Kingdom. In recent strategic developments, Malayan United Industries Berhad has advanced a group-wide asset rationalization and balance sheet optimization program, divesting non-core hotel and real estate holdings in the United Kingdom to reduce leverage and strengthen liquidity. Concurrently, the group has restructured its retail footprint with omnichannel enhancements across Metrojaya department stores, expanded the export reach and production automation of its Network Foods confectionery operations, and launched new residential and commercial phases within the Bandar Springhill township through its publicly listed subsidiary, MUI Properties Berhad.
