Business
NextEra Energy, Inc. (NEE) operates as the world's largest electric utility holding company by market capitalization and a leading provider of clean energy solutions; it generates, transmits, distributes, and sells electric power to retail and wholesale customers primarily through subsidiaries Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), the third-largest U.S. electric utility serving Florida, and NextEra Energy Resources (NEER), the global leader in wind and solar energy generation with additional natural gas, nuclear, oil, battery storage, and energy services offerings including commercial electricity, natural gas supply, energy engineering, analytics, and load management. The company maintains a diversified 73-gigawatt generating capacity across 49 U.S. states and four Canadian provinces from its Juno Beach, Florida headquarters, where it traces origins to the 1925 founding of FPL and has invested $154 billion in local economies over the past decade while employing over 16,000 people. In recent developments, NextEra Energy commissioned 2.2 gigawatts of new cost-effective solar capacity through FPL in 2024, launched the Amite Solar Energy Center as NEER's first utility-scale solar project in Louisiana in 2025, reaffirmed long-term financial expectations with $5 billion to $7 billion in planned equity units from 2024-2027, and continues aggressive infrastructure investments totaling approximately $120 billion over the next four years focused on nuclear, natural gas, wind, solar, and battery storage to enhance American energy dominance.
