Business
Norsk Hydro ASA operates as a fully integrated aluminum company, producing power; extracting bauxite; refining alumina; smelting primary aluminum; manufacturing rolled products, extrusions and recycling aluminum; and generating renewable energy worldwide. The company offers extrusion ingots, sheet ingots, foundry alloys, wire rods and high-purity aluminum through its Aluminium Metal division; tailored aluminum components and solutions for automotive, building and construction, electronics, general engineering, HVACR, infrastructure, packaging and printing via Hydro Extrusions; bauxite mining and alumina refining through Hydro Bauxite & Alumina; and hydropower from 20 plants in Norway, with trading and wholesale activities in the Nordic region and Brazil through Hydro Energy. It maintains joint ventures including Albras for primary aluminum in Brazil, Qatalum in Qatar, Slovalco in Slovakia and Hydrovolt for battery recycling in Norway; architectural systems under brands such as Wicona, Technal and Sapa; and serves over 30,000 customers across 40 countries with approximately 34,000 employees. Founded in 1905 and headquartered in Oslo, Norway, Norsk Hydro recently acquired the remaining shares in Hydrovolt from Northvolt for NOK 78 million in January 2025 to advance battery recycling; finalized its 2024-2025 share buyback program totaling 30.5 million shares in January 2025; signed USD 1,600 million and USD 800 million sustainability-linked revolving credit facilities in November 2025; approved the NOK 2.5 billion Illvatn pumped storage hydropower project adding 48 MW capacity in 2025; invested NOK 1.65 billion in a new wire rod casthouse at Karmøy smelter for production starting in 2028 with a long-term offtake agreement with NKT; launched a NOK 6.5 billion improvement program on track for NOK 1.2 billion savings in 2025; reduced 2025-2026 capital allocation targets to NOK 13.5 billion each; and proposed closing five European extrusion plants by 2026 for NOK 0.5 billion annual cost savings.
