Founded in 1957 as The English Electric Company of India and headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, with its registered office in New Delhi, the company specializes in engineering and manufacturing advanced technologies that evacuate, transmit, and distribute electricity across extra-high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage networks. It serves central and state transmission utilities, independent power producers, renewable energy developers, railway networks, and heavy industrial clients across India, as well as export markets across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.
The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of power transmission, automation, and conversion products and services, organized across several core business segments: high-voltage switchgear and transmission equipment, including power transformers, shunt reactors, air-insulated switchgear, gas-insulated switchgear up to 765 kV and above, circuit breakers, and instrument transformers; grid systems and power electronics, including High Voltage Direct Current systems, Flexible AC Transmission Systems, static synchronous compensators, and turnkey alternating-current and direct-current substation packages; digital grid automation and management solutions, including supervisory control and data acquisition systems, energy management systems, substation automation systems, protective relays, microgrid management platforms, and asset performance management software; power conversion and renewable integration technologies, including solar central inverters, battery energy storage systems, industrial electric drives, and power conversion equipment; and full lifecycle grid services, including engineering, procurement, and construction management, equipment erection, testing, commissioning, diagnostic testing, substation modernization, equipment refurbishment, and long-term maintenance contracts.
The company operates five key manufacturing and technology centres across India located in Padappai, Pallavaram, and Hosur in Tamil Nadu, Vadodara in Gujarat, and Noida in Uttar Pradesh, complemented by specialized testing laboratories and a dedicated Substation Automation Competence Centre.
In recent corporate and strategic developments, the company officially rebranded from GE T&D India Limited to GE Vernova T&D India Limited in October 2024, completing its corporate alignment following the global spin-off of GE Vernova Inc. as an independent energy enterprise. To support accelerating demand for grid expansion and renewable energy evacuation, the company initiated a 16 million USD capital investment program in 2025 to expand its domestic manufacturing footprint, introducing dedicated manufacturing capacity in Chennai and expanding its facilities in Noida for High Voltage Direct Current and Flexible AC Transmission Systems technologies. The company has also expanded its order backlog through major grid infrastructure awards, including emerging as the lowest bidder for Power Grid Corporation of India Limited's 6,000 MW Barmer HVDC project, securing a high-value contract from AESL Projects Limited for a 2,500 MW, 500 kV HVDC terminal station for the Khavda renewable energy corridor, winning a modernization award for the 1,000 MW Chandrapur HVDC link, and executing high-voltage power equipment supply agreements for Sterlite Power Transmission Limited.
