Business
Lumentum Holdings Inc. designs, manufactures, and sells advanced optical and photonic products primarily serving the data communications, telecommunications networking, and industrial laser markets. Its comprehensive product portfolio includes high-speed transceivers, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers, coherent dense wavelength division multiplexing pluggable transceivers, tunable small form-factor pluggable transceivers, and laser chips for high-speed datacom transceivers and data interconnection. The company operates through two main segments: Cloud & Networking, which focuses on components, modules, and subsystems to enable high-capacity fiber optic data transmission for cloud data centers, AI/ML, enterprise, and communication services; and Industrial Tech, which produces solid-state lasers, kilowatt-class fiber lasers, ultrafast lasers, diode lasers, gas lasers, and laser diode products for semiconductor, solar cell, display, electric vehicle, battery manufacturing, materials processing, and precision micromachining applications. Lumentum’s products cater to customers globally across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in San Jose, California, the company has expanded its capabilities through the recent $750 million acquisition of Cloud Light Technology in early 2025, enhancing its cloud photonics portfolio and vertical integration to better serve hyperscale cloud operators and infrastructure providers. Lumentum also recently unveiled innovations at industry events including 200G per lane indium phosphide components for next-generation 800G and 1.6T optical transceivers targeted at AI and machine learning applications, reinforcing its strategic focus on accelerating data center networking and AI infrastructure. The company aims to leverage these advancements to accelerate the speed, scale, and sustainability of global communication networks and commercial laser-based applications.
