Business
Menon Bearings Limited is an Indian manufacturer specializing in high-quality precision-engineered automotive and industrial components. The company's core products include bimetallic engine bearings, bushes, thrust washers, and PTFE-coated bushings for light and heavy commercial vehicle engines, two-wheeler engines, compressors, and industrial machinery. It also produces aluminum die-castings through its Menon Alkop division, including motor end shields, compressor bearing connecting rods, gear case covers, clutch assemblies, and cylinder heads. In addition, Menon Brakes Limited, a fully integrated subsidiary, manufactures asbestos-free brake linings, brake pads, and riveted brake shoes primarily for light and heavy commercial vehicles. Menon Bearings operates across diverse automotive and industrial sectors globally, exporting products to markets such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, China, Mexico, Brazil, and Belgium. The company services sectors including automotive engines, compressors, generators, stationary and marine engines, agricultural earthmovers, and tillers. Founded in 1991, Menon Bearings is headquartered in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. Recent strategic developments include the incorporation of a wholly owned subsidiary, Menon Bearings New Ventures Limited, in February 2024 to explore emerging business opportunities including auto dealerships, EV charging technologies, cold chain storage, construction projects, and other service sectors beyond its core engineering operations. The company has also pursued capacity expansion in FY25, investing approximately INR 195.5 million in its Bimetal division and INR 125 million in its aluminum casting division to address growing domestic and international demand. Menon Bearings is actively expanding its product lines into electric vehicle components, with existing supply relationships with Tesla (via Concentric) and Porsche E-Mobility (via Eaton), targeting EV segment growth to constitute 8-10% of its aluminum die-casting division by FY27. It has also implemented sustainability measures including a 570 KW solar power system to reduce its carbon footprint. Menon Bearings operates through three key business divisions: Bimetal Products, Alkop (Aluminum Die Casting), and Braking Systems, each with distinct growth drivers and margin profiles. The company balances its focus on traditional heavy vehicle and industrial engine markets less affected by EV transitions while expanding into new technology sectors via its new ventures subsidiary. This multi-sector approach positions Menon Bearings as a diversified high-technology capital goods manufacturer with strong emphasis on quality, innovation, and sustainable growth.
