Business
PBF Energy Inc. is an independent petroleum refiner and supplier of unbranded transportation fuels, heating oil, petrochemical feedstocks, lubricants, and other petroleum products primarily in the United States. The company refines crude oil and other feedstocks into gasoline, ultra-low-sulfur diesel, diesel fuel, jet fuel, petrochemicals, asphalt, blending components, and additional products through its Refining segment; it also operates logistical assets including crude oil and refined products terminals, pipelines, and storage facilities via its PBF Logistics LP (PBFX) Logistics segment. PBF Energy owns and operates six refineries located in Delaware City (Delaware), Paulsboro (New Jersey), Toledo (Ohio), Chalmette (Louisiana), Torrance (California), and Martinez (California), with a combined throughput capacity of approximately 1,000,000 barrels per day and a weighted-average Nelson Complexity Index of 12.7; these facilities serve markets throughout the Northeast, Midwest, Gulf Coast, West Coast, and other regions of the United States, as well as Canada and Mexico. Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey, the company targets wholesale and commercial customers with its unbranded products distributed through long-term offtake and supply agreements. Recent developments include the ongoing repair and planned restart of the Martinez refinery by year-end 2025 following damage, the hydrocracker turnaround at Torrance completing in September 2025, expansion of the St. Bernard Renewables joint venture with its feedstock pretreatment unit online in July 2024 and exploration of sustainable aviation fuel production, return of approximately $119 million in dividends and $330 million in share repurchases in 2024, and a focus on debt reduction alongside the Refinery Business Improvement program targeting over $350 million in annual savings.
