Business
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PCG) is a major investor-owned utility delivering electricity and natural gas to communities across northern and central California. The company manages the generation, transmission, and distribution of energy for approximately 16 million people within a 70,000-square-mile service area, spanning from Eureka in the north to Bakersfield in the south. Its diverse power portfolio includes generation from nuclear, large hydroelectric, small hydroelectric, solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and natural gas sources. Notably, in 2023, PG&E supplied 100% greenhouse gas-free electricity to its retail customers. Serving residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural clients, alongside natural gas-fired electric generation facilities, PG&E actively invests in grid modernization, energy efficiency, and renewable integration. Recent strategic initiatives include extensive wildfire mitigation efforts, such as undergrounding powerlines and enhancing system resilience, along with deploying advanced battery storage solutions to support grid reliability. The company also champions clean energy advancements, supporting customer rooftop solar installations and exploring vehicle-to-grid technologies. Established in 1905, Pacific Gas and Electric Company operates as the principal subsidiary of PG&E Corporation and maintains its headquarters in Oakland, California.
