Business
Habib Sugar Mills Limited is a Pakistan-based diversified manufacturing and trading enterprise primarily engaged in the processing of sugarcane, distillation of ethanol, manufacturing of value-added textiles, and provision of bulk liquid storage and commodity trading services. Founded in 1962 and headquartered in Karachi, Pakistan, the company operates as a key industrial constituent of the Habib Group. The company manages its business across five primary operating segments: Sugar Division, Distillery Division, Textile Division, Trading Division, and Bulk Storage Terminal. Its core products and services include refined white sugar and sugarcane byproducts, such as molasses, bagasse, and filter cake; industrial, fuel-grade, and extra neutral ethanol; food- and industrial-grade liquefied carbon dioxide (CO2); value-added home textile products, including terry towels, bathrobes, and institutional linen; bulk liquid storage, terminal handling, and port logistics for molasses, ethanol, and edible oils located at Keamari, Karachi Port; and commercial trading of agricultural commodities. The company operates major manufacturing facilities in Nawabshah, Sindh, featuring a sugarcane crushing capacity of 11,000 metric tons per day alongside an integrated distillery with a daily capacity of 142,500 liters of ethanol and an annual capacity of 18,000 metric tons of liquefied CO2, while its vertically integrated textile manufacturing facility is situated in Karachi. Habib Sugar Mills serves both domestic industrial and retail customers throughout Pakistan and exports ethanol, liquefied gas, and household textiles to international markets across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. In recent operational developments, the company has continued the execution of its Balancing, Modernization, and Replacement (BMR) capital programs across its milling and distillation units to enhance extraction yields, improve steam and energy efficiencies, and increase processing capacity. The company has also expanded its sustainability and environmental compliance framework, maintaining international certifications such as Bonsucro and International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) to support certified ethanol exports, while deploying upgraded slop treatment and emission control systems at its manufacturing plants. In addition, Habib Sugar Mills continues to pursue strategic diversification through ongoing investments in power generation initiatives, consumer food businesses, and a managed portfolio of equity investments on the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
