Kohinoor Energy Limited is a Pakistan-based independent power producer (IPP) primarily engaged in the generation, transmission, and wholesale supply of electric power to the national grid. Founded in 1994 as a joint venture between the Saigol Group, Wärtsilä Diesel of Finland, and Tomen Corporation of Japan, the company is headquartered in Lahore, Pakistan. Kohinoor Energy Limited owns and operates a heavy fuel oil (HFO) fired thermal power plant situated near Manga Mandi, Lahore, with a total gross installed capacity of 131.44 megawatts (MW) and a net capacity of approximately 124 MW. The plant comprises eight Wärtsilä 18V38 medium-speed diesel engine generating sets coupled with an exhaust gas heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and a condensing steam turbine configured for combined-cycle operation. The company's portfolio of products and operational capabilities encompasses the generation and supply of base-load and peak-load electrical power; provision of committed generation capacity under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Central Power Purchasing Agency (Guarantee) Limited (CPPA-G); operation and maintenance (O&M) of reciprocating internal combustion engine (RICE) generation assets; heat recovery steam generation and combined-cycle thermal conversion; automated fuel handling, heavy fuel treatment, and storage operations; high-voltage step-up transformation and grid interconnection management; and electrical power dispatch and plant availability services. Serving exclusively the institutional power market in Pakistan, the company delivers its entire electricity output to CPPA-G for transmission through the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) network and distribution to regional electricity supply utilities. In recent operational and strategic developments, Kohinoor Energy Limited has implemented revised commercial and tariff terms in coordination with the Government of Pakistan and CPPA-G to address sector-wide circular debt settlements, capacity payment structures, and revised fuel cost pass-through frameworks. The company has completed scheduled major lifecycle engine overhauls and component replacements across its Wärtsilä generation units to sustain thermal efficiency and ensure full compliance with National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) availability benchmarks. Additionally, the company has actively explored plant efficiency enhancements and renewable integration possibilities, including technical evaluations for co-located solar photovoltaic (PV) generation facilities and auxiliary consumption hybridization to optimize operating costs and align with evolving national grid dispatch protocols.
