Business
Mari Energies Limited, formerly known as Mari Petroleum Company Limited, is an integrated energy and exploration and production company based in Pakistan. The company engages in the upstream exploration, appraisal, development, and commercial production of natural gas, crude oil, condensate, and liquefied petroleum gas, alongside the provision of specialized oilfield and technical services. Its primary upstream operations are centered around the Mari Gas Field in Daharki, Sindh, which represents one of the largest natural gas reserves in the country, in addition to multiple operated and non-operated exploration blocks across Pakistan and the Middle East. The company operates through three principal business segments: Exploration and Production, Oilfield Services, and Diversified Ventures. Its core product and service portfolio encompasses upstream hydrocarbon products, including pipeline-quality natural gas supplied directly to fertilizer manufacturers, independent power producers, and national gas distribution grids; crude oil and natural gas condensate delivered to domestic petroleum refineries; and processed liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for industrial, commercial, and residential fuel markets; geophysical and seismic services, comprising two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) seismic data acquisition; proprietary seismic data processing and imaging; and geological and geophysical subsurface modeling; drilling and well intervention services, comprising onshore drilling and workover operations utilizing proprietary rig fleets; slickline and well testing services; mud logging and mud engineering; and specialized petroleum testing and core analysis laboratories. Mari Energies Limited primarily serves downstream industrial off-takers, including fertilizer producers such as Fauji Fertilizer Company, Fatima Fertilizer Company, and Engro Corporation; national gas transmission utilities including Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC); public power generation utilities and independent power plants; and major domestic refineries including Pak-Arab Refinery (PARCO) and National Refinery Limited. Geographically, the company conducts exploration, development, and production activities across Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, and holds an international offshore concession interest in Offshore Block 5 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, via a joint venture consortium with other national oil companies. In recent strategic developments, the company executed a corporate rebranding and changed its official name from Mari Petroleum Company Limited to Mari Energies Limited to reflect its long-term strategy of diversifying beyond conventional hydrocarbons into renewable energy, mineral exploration, and digital infrastructure. As part of this expansion, the company established wholly owned subsidiaries including Mari Mining Company Limited, focused on the exploration and development of mineral and critical metal assets in Pakistan, and Mari Technologies (Private) Limited, focused on establishing digital infrastructure, cloud computing, and data center facilities. Operationally, the company has completed multiple hydrocarbon discoveries across its portfolio, including the Ghazij and Shawal fields, progressed development plans under the national Tight Gas Policy, completed a landmark 800 percent bonus share issue to restructure equity capital, and initiated decarbonization projects including the solarization of field production and processing facilities. Founded in 1984 as Mari Gas Company Limited following the acquisition of the Pak-Stanvac Petroleum Project, Mari Energies Limited is headquartered in Islamabad, Pakistan. The company is sponsored by the Fauji Foundation and maintains significant strategic shareholding ties with Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and the Government of Pakistan.
