Business
Mirpurkhas Sugar Mills Limited is a Pakistan-based diversified agro-industrial manufacturing company principally engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of refined sugar and related by-products, as well as containerboard paper products for the industrial packaging sector. Founded in 1964 and headquartered in Karachi, Pakistan, the company operates as a flagship constituent of the Ghulam Faruque Group (GFG) and is publicly listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange under the ticker MIRKS. The company operates through two primary business segments: the Sugar Division and the Paper and Board Division. Its product portfolio comprises: refined white cane sugar produced in food-grade crystal specifications for domestic retail, commercial, and industrial food and beverage processors; industrial molasses utilized as raw feedstock for bio-ethanol and alcohol distillation; sugarcane bagasse utilized internally for biomass-fired high-pressure steam and captive electrical cogeneration; filter cake and press mud distributed as soil conditioners and organic bio-fertilizers to the agricultural community; and containerboard products, including test liner, white top test liner, kraft liner, and high-performance fluting medium engineered for the manufacture of corrugated cartons and protective packaging. In addition, the company participates in value-added ethanol, extra neutral alcohol (ENA), and food-grade liquid carbon dioxide manufacturing through its joint-venture holding in Unicol Limited, alongside holding strategic equity stakes in group affiliates including Cherat Cement Company Limited and Cherat Packaging Limited. Mirpurkhas Sugar Mills Limited conducts its core agro-processing operations at its manufacturing complex situated in Jamrao, District Mirpurkhas, Sindh, operating a sugarcane milling facility with a crushing capacity of 12,500 metric tons per day, supported by commercial containerboard production facilities in Sindh and an integrated nationwide supply chain network. In recent major operational and strategic developments, Mirpurkhas Sugar Mills Limited has completed and commercially launched its 250 metric ton per day Paper and Board Division, marking a substantial diversification beyond seasonal sugar milling into industrial packaging materials. To address rising raw material input costs and reduce dependency on imported waste paper and pulp, the company has initiated the development and installation of an in-house agro-pulping facility engineered to process indigenous agricultural residues and wheat straw. In parallel, the company has executed targeted balancing, modernization, and replacement (BMR) programs across its sugar milling infrastructure to optimize sucrose extraction yields, improve boiler thermal efficiencies, and support expanded distillery off-take through its affiliated value-chain partnerships.
