Business
Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX: RCI.A, RCI.B; NYSE: RCI) is a leading Canadian communications and media company that provides wireless voice and data services, cable television, high-speed Internet, telephony, and broadcasting through its Wireless, Cable, and Media segments. The company offers core products and services including Rogers Wireless and Fido mobile plans with 5G connectivity and satellite-to-mobile texting; Ignite Internet, TV, and home phone bundles; business solutions such as enterprise connectivity and cloud services; Rogers Sportsnet specialty channels, Hockey Night in Canada, and other television networks; radio stations; Rogers Bank credit cards; and home monitoring via Ignite Smart Home. It operates nationwide with major hubs in Toronto, Brampton, Montreal, Calgary, and Burnaby, serving consumer, business, and government customers across Canada. Founded in 1960 by Ted Rogers through the acquisition of CHFI radio station and headquartered at 333 Bloor Street East in Toronto, Ontario, Rogers traces deeper roots to 1914 innovations by Edward S. Rogers Sr. in radio technology. The company owns key assets such as 75% of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors, and Argonauts), the Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Centre, and Rogers Arena naming rights. Recent developments include the June 2025 closing of a CDN$7 billion equity investment from Blackstone and Canadian institutional investors like CPP Investments in a subsidiary holding wireless backhaul assets, enabling debt repayment and balance sheet strengthening while retaining operational control. In July and September 2025, Rogers launched and expanded satellite-to-mobile texting in partnership with SpaceX and Lynk Global, achieving three times the coverage of competitors across 5.4 million square kilometers for texting and text-to-911 in remote areas. Additional launches encompass Rogers Xfinity Pro WiFi 7 gateways with device prioritization and backup connectivity in October 2025, alongside a 10-year Comcast partnership for broadband and smart home hardware from April 2024, and the 2023 Shaw Communications acquisition enhancing Western Canada cable and Internet operations.
