Roche Holding AG develops, manufactures and markets pharmaceuticals and in vitro diagnostics worldwide. The company operates through its Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics divisions; the Pharmaceuticals division offers prescription medicines addressing oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, ophthalmology, neuroscience, cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases, haemophilia, inflammatory and respiratory conditions; key products include monoclonal antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates and targeted therapies such as Tecentriq, Perjeta, Avastin, Hemlibra and Actemra; the Diagnostics division provides professional diagnostics systems and reagents for clinical chemistry, immunoassays, molecular diagnostics, tissue diagnostics and diabetes care including Accu-Chek glucose monitoring; additional offerings encompass point-of-care tests such as the recently FDA-cleared Bordetella infection diagnostic and sequencing technologies like those achieving Guinness World Record advances in 2025. Roche Holding AG maintains a global presence with operations in more than 130 countries, substantial manufacturing and R&D facilities in the United States including Genentech as a wholly owned subsidiary and a majority stake in Chugai Pharmaceutical in Japan. Founded in 1896 and headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, the company pursues recent strategic expansions including a USD 50 billion investment over five years announced in 2025 for new US R&D centres in Massachusetts focused on AI and cardiovascular-metabolic research, expanded manufacturing in Indiana for continuous glucose monitoring and weight loss medicines, gene therapy facilities in Pennsylvania and upgrades across multiple states creating over 12,000 jobs; it entered a definitive merger agreement in September 2025 to acquire 89bio for up to USD 3.5 billion to bolster its CVRM portfolio with pegozafermin for moderate to severe MASH; other moves encompass the 2024 acquisition of Carmot Therapeutics for USD 2.7 billion, 2023 purchase of Televant Holdings for USD 7.1 billion, partnerships like the antibody-drug conjugate deal with Innovent Biologics and licensing of CDK inhibitors from Regor Pharmaceuticals.
