Business
Rheinmetall AG is a Düsseldorf-headquartered international integrated technology group founded in 1889, primarily engaged in defense and automotive sectors. The company manufactures and supplies a broad portfolio of defense products including armoured vehicles such as main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, reconnaissance and combat vehicles, and self-propelled artillery; weapon systems and ammunition; electronic solutions including sensor systems and communications equipment; and materials and trade products. In the automotive segment, Rheinmetall produces sensors and actuators, exhaust emission control systems, throttle bodies, electric drive modules, thermal management systems, pumps, valves, and electric traction systems targeting passenger and commercial vehicles. Rheinmetall operates globally, with significant activities in Europe, North America, and key markets worldwide. Recently, Rheinmetall completed the strategic acquisition of U.S.-based vehicle specialist Loc Performance Products, LLC in late 2024, which enhances its production capacity and market presence in the United States, particularly targeting major U.S. Army vehicle programs such as the XM30 infantry fighting vehicle project and the Common Tactical Truck initiative. This acquisition aligns with Rheinmetall’s expansion strategy in the North American defense market. In 2025, Rheinmetall also advanced into naval shipbuilding by agreeing to acquire the military division of German shipbuilder Lürssen Group, which significantly broadens its portfolio to include warships and autonomous maritime systems, with completion expected in early 2026. The company reported increased sales of €7.5 billion in 2025, up 20% year-on-year, driven by defense sector demand and strategic investments in new technologies and markets. Rheinmetall continues to invest in forward-looking innovations encompassing emissions reduction, e-mobility, and digital technologies across its automotive and defense divisions.
