Business
Saipem S.p.A. (SAPMF) operates as a global leader in engineering, construction, drilling, and project management services for the energy and infrastructure sectors, delivering complex offshore and onshore solutions including subsea pipelines, platforms, refineries, LNG plants, and sustainable infrastructures. Founded in 1957 and headquartered in Milan, Italy, the company provides core products and services across key business lines: Asset Based Services encompassing offshore engineering and construction (E&C) with SURF (Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers & Flowlines), offshore drilling via a versatile fleet of ultra-deepwater vessels, semi-submersibles, and jack-ups; Energy Carriers including onshore LNG plants, gas monetization for hydrogen, ammonia, urea, biofuels, and proprietary technologies like SPELLTM for wastewater treatment and Saipem LiqueflexTM; Robotics and Industrialized Solutions featuring underwater robotics, subsea structures, Hydrone-R, SPRINGS®, FLUIDEEP™, and SirCos; Offshore Wind for fixed and floating plants plus integrated energy hubs; and Sustainable Infrastructures covering high-speed/high-capacity railways, subways, tramways, highways, and monitoring services. Saipem maintains fabrication yards in Italy, Brazil, Angola, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Nigeria; an offshore fleet of 17 owned construction vessels and 13 drilling rigs (9 owned); and engineering hubs in Italy, Mexico, France, UAE, and India, serving clients in over 60 countries across Europe, Americas, Africa, Middle East, Asia Pacific, and CIS with approximately 34,000 employees of more than 130 nationalities. Recent strategic developments include the signing of a binding merger agreement with Subsea7 on July 24, 2025, to create Saipem7—a combined entity with €21 billion in revenue, over €2 billion EBITDA, €43 billion backlog, and a diversified fleet of more than 60 vessels—expected to complete in the second half of 2026 pending regulatory and shareholder approvals, with shareholders approving the merger on September 25, 2025, and annual synergies of €300 million projected from fleet optimization, procurement, and efficiencies; three new offshore contracts worth approximately 600 million USD (Saipem's share) awarded in October 2025 for BP's Shah Deniz Compression project in Azerbaijan involving transportation and installation of a 19,000-ton platform, 26 km of pipelines, and subsea works using local vessels like Khankendi and Israfil Huseynov, under a July 2024 framework; strengthened offshore drilling order intake with 135 million USD in awards and extensions in West Africa, Mediterranean, and Far East; and extension of a biorefining collaboration agreement with Eni in March 2025.
