Business
Sartorius AG is an international supplier of laboratory and bioprocess technology headquartered in Göttingen, Germany, founded in 1870. The company’s operations are divided into two main divisions: Bioprocess Solutions and Lab Products & Services. Its Bioprocess Solutions division specializes in single-use technologies including filters, bags, cell culture media, and components for filtration, fluid management, fermentation, and purification processes used in biotech and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The Lab Products & Services division offers laboratory instruments and consumables such as lab balances, pipettes, water purification systems, weighing accessories, cell analysis instruments, reagents, and software for lab data and fleet management. Sartorius serves the life sciences research, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, cell and gene therapy, and applied industries worldwide through about 60 production and sales sites. The company’s offerings include biologics testing, bioprocess consulting and engineering, instrument service and validation, and advanced cell culture media. In 2025, Sartorius completed the acquisition of MatTek Corp, a developer of human cell-based microtissues and 3D tissue models, expanding its cell technology portfolio in its Lab Products & Services division to accelerate drug development and reduce animal testing. This acquisition strengthens Sartorius's portfolio of cell analysis instruments, reagents, and AI-supported data models by integrating advanced human tissue models. Sartorius continues to pursue strategic acquisitions and alliances to broaden its innovative solutions in both lab instruments and bioprocess technologies. The company is a leading partner to the global biopharmaceutical industry, focusing on enabling the development and manufacture of biotech medications, vaccines, and cell and gene therapies. Sartorius has a strong commitment to sustainability, with its German sites powered by 100% renewable electricity since 2021. It employs around 13,500 people globally and generated approximately €3.4 billion in sales revenue in 2024. Sartorius maintains a robust global footprint with headquarters in Germany and key operational and production sites, including facilities in the US and Slovakia associated with the MatTek integration. Sartorius AG is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and DAX index under ticker SARTF. The company's ongoing strategy emphasizes expanding its technological capabilities and market reach through continuous innovation and targeted acquisitions in the life sciences and bioprocess markets.
