- Asian Palm Oil Public Company Limited is a Thailand-based agribusiness and renewable energy company primarily engaged in the extraction and distribution of crude palm oil, palm kernel products, and the generation of bio-based electricity. The company processes fresh fruit bunches sourced from local agricultural networks into a comprehensive portfolio of palm-based products and industrial by-products, comprising: crude palm oil used as raw material for cooking oil refineries, biodiesel manufacturers, and oleochemical producers; dried palm kernels supplied to kernel crushing plants for palm kernel oil and meal extraction; palm kernel shells utilized as high-calorific biomass fuel for industrial boilers; empty fruit bunches repurposed for biomass energy and organic agricultural fertilizer; palm fiber used for industrial fuel and board manufacturing; palm acid oil utilized in animal feed and soap production; and certified high-yield oil palm seedlings distributed to commercial growers. In addition to agricultural processing, the company operates a renewable energy business utilizing palm oil mill effluent through an anaerobic Continuously Stirred Tank Reactor biogas system to produce electricity as a Very Small Power Producer, supplying electric power directly to the Provincial Electricity Authority grid under long-term power purchase agreements.
Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Ao Luek District, Krabi Province, Thailand, Asian Palm Oil Public Company Limited completed its initial public offering and listed its shares on the Market for Alternative Investment of the Stock Exchange of Thailand under the ticker symbol APO in April 2024. Following the listing, the company allocated capital expenditure toward comprehensive machinery modernization programs, notably transitioning processing lines from conventional horizontal sterilizers to automated vertical sterilization systems to accelerate processing turnaround, reduce manual labor requirements, lower unit production costs, and decrease operational greenhouse gas emissions. Concurrently, the company expanded its grid-connected biogas power generation capacity from 400 kilowatts to over 1 megawatt. To strengthen upstream supply chain stability and maximize oil extraction rates, the company launched the Asian Plus+ farmer partnership program, signing memorandums of understanding with registered oil palm smallholders to implement good agricultural practices in accordance with national agricultural standards and international sustainability frameworks including the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.
