- Smothong Group Public Company Limited is a Thailand-based agribusiness and renewable energy enterprise engaged in the manufacturing, processing, and distribution of palm oil products and the generation of bio-based electricity. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Surat Thani, Thailand, the company operates integrated agricultural processing operations across the southern and central regions of the country.
The company operates primarily through two distinct business segments: Palm Oil Processing and Renewable Energy. Its comprehensive product and service portfolio comprises; crude palm oil (CPO) refined for food manufacturing, industrial cooking oils, and biodiesel production; crude palm kernel oil (CPKO) used in oleochemicals, cosmetics, and specialty food products; palm kernel cake (PKC) and dried palm sludge cake marketed as nutrient-rich animal feed supplements; biomass by-products, including palm kernel shells, mesocarp fibers, and shredded empty fruit bunches (EFB) utilized as solid biomass fuels for industrial boilers; and biogas-generated electricity produced via anaerobic digestion of palm oil mill effluent (POME), supplying internal processing plant operations and delivering surplus renewable power to the grid under power purchase agreements with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA).
Smothong Group maintains strategic manufacturing and extraction mills located adjacent to raw material cultivation bases across Surat Thani (Tha Chana and Phanom districts), Saraburi (Nong Khae district), and Chumphon (Thung Tako district, operated through its subsidiary A.L. Palm Co., Ltd.). The company serves industrial refineries, commercial biofuel manufacturers, agricultural feed producers, and power utilities, sourcing fresh fruit bunches through direct procurement and sustainable smallholder networks certified under the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) standards.
In recent developments, Smothong Group completed its initial public offering (IPO) and listed its shares on the Stock Exchange of Thailand under the ticker symbol SMO in November 2025, offering 231.6 million ordinary shares to fund crude palm oil manufacturing capacity expansions, technological enhancements for extraction yields, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) process upgrades, loan repayments, and working capital. Additionally, the company has expanded its smallholder partnership initiatives via the Smothong Sustainable Oil Palm Production Community Enterprise Group to advance RSPO supply chain traceability and strengthened its closed-loop bio-circular-green (BCG) infrastructure to maximize biogas energy recovery from agricultural waste streams.
