In recent developments, Shionogi completes the acquisition of Japan Tobacco Inc.'s pharmaceutical subsidiaries Torii Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Akros Pharma Inc. for approximately $1.1 billion in 2025, bolstering its global R&D capabilities particularly in AI drug discovery and integrating around 700 employees; it also acquires TORII PHARMACEUTICAL CO., LTD. as a wholly-owned subsidiary in September 2025 and merges with U.S. biotech Qpex Biopharma to extend its infectious disease innovation platform.
