Business
The Sherwin-Williams Company, founded in 1866 and headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, manufactures, distributes, and sells paints, coatings, floorcoverings, and related products to professional, industrial, commercial, and retail customers worldwide. The company operates through three main segments: Paint Stores Group, which manages over 5,000 company-owned stores offering architectural paints and coatings, industrial and marine products, floorcoverings, and supplies primarily in North America; Consumer Brands Group, which produces branded paints and coatings including Valspar, HGTV Home, Dutch Boy, Krylon, Minwax, and Thompson's WaterSeal for third-party retailers and mass merchandisers; and Performance Coatings Group, which provides high-performance coatings for industrial, wood, marine, packaging, automotive, and protective applications in more than 110 countries. Sherwin-Williams maintains a vertically integrated structure with global manufacturing facilities, distribution networks, and ongoing R&D investments, serving markets across North and South America, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and beyond. Recent developments include the completion of its $1.2 billion acquisition of BASF's Brazilian architectural paints business, Suvinil, in 2025, adding the Suvinil and Glasu! brands, two production facilities, and approximately 1,000 employees to bolster Latin American presence; expansion of its Tournus, France manufacturing site in 2024 to increase packaging coatings capacity by nearly 70% with new process lines; progression on its $600 million global headquarters in downtown Cleveland and R&D center in Brecksville, Ohio, both opened in 2024; appointment of Heidi G. Petz as Chair, President, and CEO in 2024; launch of new HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams primers exclusively at Lowe's; and addition to the Dow Jones Industrial Average in November 2024.
