Business
Stella-Jones Inc. is a North American manufacturer specializing in industrial pressure-treated wood products, operating primarily in Canada and the United States. The company’s core products include railway ties and timbers for rail transportation; utility poles for electrical utilities and telecommunications; residential lumber for outdoor applications distributed to retailers; and industrial products such as maritime pilings, foundation pilings, railway bridge components, coal tar-based treatments, and other specialized wood products. Stella-Jones serves major railway operators, electrical transmission and telecommunications companies, and the residential and industrial markets across its geographic footprint. Founded in 1992 and headquartered in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Stella-Jones operates over 40 wood-treating facilities across 16 U.S. states and 5 Canadian provinces, supported by an extensive distribution network. Recent strategic developments include the acquisition of Brooks Manufacturing Co. in early November 2025, a U.S.-based manufacturer of treated wood distribution crossarms and transmission framing components with annual sales of approximately US$84 million, strengthening Stella-Jones' position in the utility component sector. Earlier in 2025, Stella-Jones expanded its infrastructure capabilities by acquiring Locweld, a designer and producer of lattice transmission towers and steel poles, marking its entry into the nearly $5 billion steel transmission structure market. This move complements its existing wood utility poles business and enhances its product offering to electrical utilities. Stella-Jones continues to invest in operational efficiencies and sustainability, including solar power installations and renewable energy usage across its manufacturing sites. These initiatives align with its strategy of broadening infrastructure solutions while maintaining leadership in pressure-treated wood products. The company's business segments operate through Pressure-Treated Wood products and Logs and Lumber, with sales driven primarily by the utility, telecommunications, railway, residential retail, and industrial sectors. Stella-Jones has a reputation for reliability and supply security, sustaining partnerships with major North American railroads, telecommunication providers, and electrical utilities. Its management team, headed by CEO Éric Vachon since 2019, is focused on growth through acquisitions and operational excellence, positioning Stella-Jones as a leading supplier in the North American treated wood and infrastructure materials market.
