Business
U.S. Silica Holdings, Inc. is a diversified industrial minerals company and leading provider of last-mile logistics services primarily serving the oil and gas industry. The company operates through two main segments: Oil and Gas Proppants and Industrial and Specialty Products. It manufactures and sells whole grain commercial silica products used as proppants in hydraulic fracturing for oil and natural gas recovery; as well as silica products for manufacturing glass, foundry, filtration, chemicals, building products, and sports/recreation markets. It also produces engineered performance materials derived from diatomaceous earth, perlite, clays, and mineral-based industrial minerals. Additionally, U.S. Silica offers logistics, equipment rental, and contract labor services supporting its core product lines. The company operates 26 mines and processing facilities plus exploration properties across the United States. Headquartered in Katy, Texas, it serves diverse markets including energy, construction, chemical manufacturing, and industrial applications. Recently, U.S. Silica completed an acquisition by affiliates of Apollo Global Management in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $1.85 billion, resulting in the company becoming privately held. This acquisition was finalized in July 2024, with Apollo underscoring U.S. Silica’s high-quality reserve base and innovation-driven customer solutions as key growth pillars. Since then, U.S. Silica has maintained its brand and leadership team while announcing price increases on multiple industrial and specialty products to offset rising costs and support reinvestment. The company continues expanding its logistics capabilities and product portfolio to bolster its position in proppant supply and industrial minerals markets. U.S. Silica’s subsidiaries include EP Minerals, specializing in diatomaceous earth, perlite, and clay-derived products, and SandBox Logistics™, a leader in proppant storage, handling, and delivery solutions. Founded in 1918, U.S. Silica has developed a reputation for operational excellence and innovation within energy and industrial minerals sectors in the United States.
