Business
The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (NYSE: SMG) manufactures and markets branded consumer lawn and garden products worldwide, serving as North America's leading provider in the category with headquarters in Marysville, Ohio, where operations trace back to its founding in 1868 by Orlando M. Scott as a seed company. The company offers core products including lawn fertilizers, grass seeds, spreaders and Turf Builder fertilizers under the Scotts brand; water-soluble and organic plant foods, potting mixes, garden soils and mulches under Miracle-Gro; insecticides, herbicides such as Roundup (marketed exclusively in North America and parts of Europe) and rodenticides like Tomcat under Ortho; as well as hydroponic nutrients, LED grow lights, growing systems, ventilation equipment and media through its wholly owned subsidiary Hawthorne Gardening Company, which targets indoor and soilless gardening enthusiasts including hydroponic growers. Additional offerings encompass pest control solutions, organic lines like Performance Organics and Miracle-Gro Performance Organics, and brands such as AeroGrow, General Hydroponics, Botanicare and Gavita for specialized horticultural needs. Products distribute through home improvement retailers, mass merchandisers, garden centers, nurseries and online channels, with international brands including Evergreen, KB, Fertiligene, Celaflor and Substral in Europe, Asia Pacific and other regions. In recent developments, the company expanded its long-standing partnership with the Columbus Crew soccer team in November 2025 through a multi-year stadium naming rights agreement effective 2026 for ScottsMiracle-Gro Field, alongside becoming presenting partner for the Crew's Soccer in Schools program launched in 2025 and continuing product supply for natural grass surfaces. ScottsMiracle-Gro swung to profitability with $145 million in net income for fiscal year 2025 and advanced plans to spin off its Hawthorne cannabis-focused division; earlier initiatives include a September 2024 collaboration with Google Cloud to launch an AI-powered gardening agent on Vertex AI for personalized product recommendations and advice. The company maintains research facilities across the U.S., regional offices, and operations in Canada, Europe and Asia Pacific, emphasizing innovation in turfgrass, plant nutrition, pest control and hydroponics.
