The company conducts business across more than 100 markets globally through its primary divisions: State Street Global Services, which delivers custody, fund accounting, administration, corporate actions, securities lending, and middle-office outsourcing for assets including equities, fixed income, derivatives, ETFs, private equity, and real estate totaling approximately $43 trillion under custody and administration; State Street Global Advisors (rebranded as State Street Investment Management), which offers passive and active asset management strategies, notably the pioneering SPDR S&P 500 ETF launched in 1993 and other index and ETF products with trillions in assets under management; and State Street Global Markets, which provides trading, foreign exchange, securities finance, research, and transition management services. Subsidiaries include State Street Bank and Trust Company and Boston Financial Data Services, a joint venture focused on shareholder record-keeping and compliance. Recent developments include the December 2024 partnership with Harris | Oakmark, under which the firm implemented State Street Alpha front-to-back platform for transaction lifecycle management across over 2,000 accounts ahead of schedule, with full migration targeted for Q1 2026; the February 2025 agreement to acquire Mizuho Financial Group's global custody business outside Japan, encompassing about $580 billion in assets under custody and $24 billion under administration to expand servicing for Japanese clients' overseas investments; and the November 2025 acquisition of PriceStats to enhance proprietary inflation analytics and data products for investment decision-making.
