The enterprise, with maritime roots extending to 1914, was formally established as a drilling business in 1973 and maintains its headquarters in Aberdeen, United Kingdom. Notably, in March 2022, Odfjell Drilling underwent a significant reorganization, with its well services, engineering, and platform drilling divisions transitioning into a separate entity, Odfjell Technology. Since then, Odfjell Drilling has solidified its position as a pure-play drilling company specializing in harsh environment and deepwater capabilities, recently expanding its fleet with acquisitions and securing key contract extensions. The company operates as a subsidiary of Odfjell Partners Holding Ltd.
