- Symrise AG (SYIEF) develops, manufactures and markets fragrances, flavors, cosmetic active ingredients, functional ingredients and nutrition solutions worldwide. The company operates through two primary segments: Taste, Nutrition & Health, which offers savory and sweet flavors, natural and sustainable ingredients for food and beverages, pet food solutions, probiotics for supplements and functional foods, and sustainable ingredients for aquaculture; and Scent & Care, which provides fragrance compositions and aroma molecules for perfumes, personal care and oral care products, as well as cosmetic base materials, active ingredients and mint flavors for cleaning products, detergents and air fresheners. Its approximately 35,000 products, largely derived from natural raw materials such as vanilla, citrus, blossoms and plant extracts, serve manufacturers in the perfume, cosmetics, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, pet food, baby food and supplement industries.
Founded in 2003 through the merger of Haarmann & Reimer and Dragoco—whose roots trace back to 1874—Symrise AG maintains its corporate headquarters in Holzminden, Germany, with regional headquarters in Rennes (France), Teterboro (New Jersey, USA), São Paulo (Brazil) and Singapore. The company conducts operations across more than 100 sites in roughly 150 countries, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, North America, Asia Pacific and Latin America, employing over 12,000 people and generating 2024 sales of €4,999 million.
Among recent developments, Symrise established a strategic partnership with Aplantex Bio in October 2025 to access innovative green biotechnology for producing hard-to-source plant-based molecules like apigenin, orientin, vitexin and luteolin, addressing climate-related supply challenges in cosmetics, nutrition and health applications. The company also invested in biotech firm Cellibre in 2025 to advance precision fermentation technologies for natural, high-value flavor and cosmetic actives. In October 2025, Symrise issued an €800 million seven-year bond to support ongoing investments, while launching the Symvision AI platform for proprietary taste development and the 'Houston' digital tool for CO2 emissions tracking ahead of COP30, alongside partnerships for rainforest protection in Honduras and Suriname.
