Business
The Container Store Group, Inc. functions as a specialized purveyor of storage and organizational merchandise and bespoke solutions throughout the United States. The company conducts its operations through two distinct divisions: The Container Store retail business and Elfa. Their offerings encompass an extensive array of products, numbering over 10,000 items, crafted to empower customers with enhanced organization. These categories feature custom closet systems, including Elfa Classic, Elfa Décor, Laren, and Avera branded lines, alongside a variety of wood-based custom home storage and organization options. They also provide tailored solutions for areas such as closets, garages, home offices, pantries, laundry rooms, and built-in wall units. Additionally, the Elfa segment focuses on the design, production, and distribution of adaptable component-based shelving and drawer systems suitable for various home areas, including closets, kitchens, and garages, as well as made-to-measure sliding doors for the Nordic European market. As of late 2024, the company maintained approximately 104 retail locations across 34 states and the District of Columbia, with each store spanning about 24,000 square feet on average. The company makes its products accessible directly to consumers via its digital platforms, mobile application, and customer service center, in addition to supplying various retailers and distributors through wholesale channels. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Coppell, Texas, The Container Store Group, Inc. recently initiated Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in December 2024 to recapitalize its financial structure, though its retail and online operations are continuing. Following a decline in its market capitalization, the company's common stock was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange in December 2024 and now trades on an OTC Markets exchange.
