Business
Formosa Laboratories, Inc. is a specialty pharmaceutical manufacturer headquartered in Taoyuan, Taiwan, established in 1985. The company operates globally with facilities and market presence in India, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, China, Switzerland, the United States, Canada, Taiwan, and other international locations. It primarily manufactures and sells active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) including a wide range of products such as vitamin D derivatives (Alfacalcidol, Calcitriol, Calcipotriol, Doxercalciferol, Paricalcitol), anticancer agents, anti-inflammatory and analgesics, immunomodulators, respiratory agents, cholesterol and phosphate binders, CNS agents, MRI enhancing agents, steroids, antibiotics, and ultraviolet (UV) filters used in sunscreens and cosmetics. Additionally, Formosa Laboratories provides contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services encompassing development and manufacturing of APIs, peptides, injectables, and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), including GMP-compliant processes such as recrystallization, filtration, dialysis, column purification, distillation, spray drying, micronization, aseptic injectable manufacturing, secondary packaging, labeling, serialization, and peptide synthesis. The company is noted for its advanced capabilities in high-potency APIs and ADCs, supporting precision cancer therapies and specialty drug markets. Recent significant developments include the strategic acquisition of SynChem, Inc., a U.S.-based contract research laboratory, in mid-2024. This move expanded Formosa Laboratories' North American CDMO footprint and enhanced its capacity for organic synthesis, process development, and ADC payload and linker manufacturing. SynChem now operates as SynChem-Formosa, strengthening the company’s comprehensive GMP-compliant CDMO offerings across the U.S. and international markets. Further, Formosa Laboratories entered a strategic partnership with Easywell Biomedicals, Inc. to co-develop TLX-054 injectable formulations, aimed at expanding its portfolio in high-value and complex injectable drug markets. The company maintains GMP certifications from Taiwan’s Department of Health, US FDA, BGV of Germany, EDQM, and Japan’s PMDA, attesting to its adherence to global regulatory standards. Formosa's vertically integrated one-stop CDMO services allow delivery of products from pilot scale to commercial scale with a strong emphasis on quality and innovation. In addition to manufacturing and CDMO services, Formosa Laboratories is engaged in chemical trading and investment activities. With approximately 280 employees, the company serves a broad range of markets in the pharmaceutical industry, including biotech firms requiring specialized manufacturing for novel therapies. Their recent strategic shifts focus on expanding presence and capabilities in the precision medicine and oncology sectors through their antibody-drug conjugate platform and injectable product lines, positioning Formosa Laboratories as a key global player in specialty pharmaceutical manufacturing and contract development services.
