Business
U-Haul Holding Company serves as a comprehensive provider of do-it-yourself moving and storage solutions for both residential and commercial needs throughout the United States and Canada, having commenced operations in 1945. Its primary Moving and Storage division facilitates the rental of a vast array of equipment, including trucks, trailers, portable storage units, and other specialized items, along with traditional self-storage spaces, catering predominantly to individuals relocating their households. This segment also features the sale of essential moving supplies, towing accessories, and propane, where it stands as a leading retailer. Furthermore, it powers an online platform, uhaul.com, connecting users with independent Moving Help service providers and affiliated self-storage facilities. Customers can also arrange vehicle transport options and acquire specific packing materials for delicate electronics, alongside standard tapes, security devices, and various packing aids. The reach of these products and services extends across a broad network of over 24,000 rental locations, encompassing both company-managed retail stores and independent U-Haul dealers. As of March 31, 2025, the company's rental fleet comprised approximately 192,100 trucks, 137,500 trailers, and 39,700 towing apparatuses. Additionally, it maintained over 2,046 self-storage properties, offering more than 1,079,000 rentable units covering 93.7 million square feet. The U-Haul app has also seen significant adoption, with downloads increasing to over 7 million, consistently ranking among the top travel apps. The Property and Casualty Insurance segment, known as Repwest Insurance Company, delivers services for loss adjustment and claims processing. It also underwrites moving and storage protection options such as Safemove, Safetow, Safestor, Safestor Mobile, and Safemove Plus, offering damage waivers, cargo protection, and certain medical and life coverage for rental and storage customers. The Life Insurance segment, operating as Oxford Life Insurance Company, primarily provides life and health insurance policies to the senior demographic through direct writing and reinsurance. The company, which was formerly known as AMERCO, is headquartered in Reno, Nevada.
