Universal Corporation (NYSE: UVV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia and founded in 1918, serves as a leading global business-to-business supplier of leaf tobacco and plant-based ingredients to manufacturers of consumer tobacco products, food, beverages and other consumer-packaged goods. The company operates through two primary segments: Tobacco Operations, which procures, finances, processes, packs, stores and ships flue-cured, burley, dark air-cured and oriental leaf tobaccos, along with specialty services including custom blending, chemical and physical testing, service cutting, reconstituted leaf tobacco manufacturing, just-in-time delivery and liquid nicotine; and Ingredients Operations, which produces value-added plant-based ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, herbs, juices, concentrates, pomaces, ciders, purees, nutraceuticals, fruit fibers, seeds, seed powders, dehydrated products, botanical extracts, distillates, natural flavors and colors. Through subsidiaries including Universal Leaf Tobacco Company, Universal Ingredients and Universal Enterprises, Universal conducts business in more than 30 countries across five continents, employs over 20,000 permanent and seasonal workers, and maintains long-term relationships with thousands of farmers and major customers such as Altria Group. Recent strategic developments include the 2020 acquisition of Silva International to enter dehydrated fruits, vegetables and herbs; 2021 acquisitions of Shank's Extracts and FruitSmart to expand flavors, extracts and fruit/vegetable ingredients; ongoing organic growth and capacity expansions in the Ingredients segment, highlighted by a major facility upgrade in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and FY2024 revenues of $303 million; strong Q2 FY2026 results with sales of $754 million and net income of $34 million as of September 30, 2025; and the November 2025 appointment of Gregory A. Trojan to the Board of Directors to bolster consumer-focused leadership amid diversification efforts.
