- Invesco Bond Fund (NYSE: VBF) is a diversified, closed-end fixed income mutual fund that seeks to provide interest income while conserving capital. The fund primarily invests at least 80% of its total assets in debt securities, including fixed-rate U.S. investment-grade corporate bonds; securities of or guaranteed by the U.S. Government; commercial paper; and cash and cash equivalents, with flexibility to allocate up to 20% to non-investment grade securities, U.S. dollar-denominated and non-U.S. dollar-denominated securities of foreign issuers in developed and emerging markets, government securities, asset-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, residential mortgage-backed securities, derivatives, and other instruments with similar economic characteristics. It benchmarks performance against the Bloomberg Baa U.S. Corporate Bond Index and holds a portfolio of approximately 1,401 securities with total assets under management of about $190 million as of recent reports.
Launched in 1970 and domiciled in the United States with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, the fund was formerly known as Invesco Van Kampen Bond Fund. Invesco Advisers, Inc., a subsidiary of Invesco Ltd., serves as the fund sponsor, with day-to-day portfolio management handled jointly by Michael Hyman, Matthew Brill, Todd Schomberg, and Chuck Burge. The fund targets income-oriented investors in the investment-grade fixed income segment, primarily through U.S. markets, though with limited exposure to international issuers.
Among recent developments, the fund raised its monthly dividend by 2.1% to $0.0715 per share in December 2025, payable on December 31, 2025 to shareholders of record on December 16, 2025, reflecting ongoing distribution adjustments amid market conditions. Shareholders approved changes to fundamental investment restrictions in 2024, including amendments to diversification, borrowing, and senior securities policies; removal of restrictions on investing for control, in management-owned securities, other investment companies, short-term profit, preferred stock, debt securities, and joint trading; intended to standardize policies across the Invesco funds complex, enhance flexibility in response to market and regulatory changes, and benefit shareholders without materially altering current operations. Portfolio management saw updates as recently as referenced in ongoing oversight by the current team, building on prior changes announced in 2020.
