In August 2025, Shell announced the wind-down of Volta Charging and its Volta Media division by year-end, citing a strategic shift to high-speed paid DC charging at Shell-branded sites, which includes dismantling over 2,000 stations and impacting around 190 employees; however, in November 2025, Shell agreed to sell a substantial portion of the Volta Media Network, comprising thousands of media-enabled chargers across 34 states, to Jolt Energy Pty Ltd., with the deal expected to close on January 1, 2026.
