Business
AB Volvo (publ) is a Swedish multinational manufacturing corporation primarily engaged in the production, distribution, and sale of heavy-duty trucks, buses, construction equipment, marine and industrial engines, as well as related financing and service solutions. The company manufactures a broad range of products including trucks under the Volvo Trucks, Renault Trucks, Mack Trucks, and UD Trucks brands; buses and bus chassis; construction equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders, and articulated haulers; marine engines; industrial engines; and financial services including customer financing and insurance. AB Volvo operates globally, serving more than 190 markets with production facilities in 18 countries and a workforce of approximately 100,000 employees. The company is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, and was founded in 1927. Recent major developments include strategic investments and expansions in electromobility and green technologies. In 2025, AB Volvo furthered its green transformation by acquiring a state-of-the-art battery cell laboratory from NOVO Energy AB to enhance its electric vehicle capabilities. Volvo Energy, a division within the group, introduced the PU2000, an advanced Battery Energy Storage System designed to optimize energy costs and support the shift to electromobility, featuring energy cost optimization, peak shaving, and integration with electric vehicle charging. Additionally, Volvo Group and Daimler Truck have continued their joint venture Coretura to develop and commercialize stand-alone digital vehicle applications, aiming to foster innovation in the commercial vehicle sector. The group also reported ongoing ramp-ups in production of fully electric trucks and buses, aligning with its commitment to sustainable transport solutions. AB Volvo targets the transportation, mobility, construction, and mining industries with a diverse portfolio addressing customer needs for heavy-duty logistics, public transport, industrial power solutions, and financing. Its product lineup includes both legacy combustion engine models and an expanding range of battery electric vehicles, reflecting a strategic shift towards electrification and digitalization. The company maintains an extensive global footprint with sales, production, and R&D operations across Europe, North America, Asia, and other regions. Recent operational highlights include a reported net sales adjustment reflecting currency impacts in Q3 2025 and ongoing cost reduction initiatives across the group. Volvo Cars, a separate entity focused on passenger vehicles but historically linked to AB Volvo, is advancing its electric vehicle portfolio with new battery electric model launches and capacity expansions, supporting the group's broader electrification strategy. Overall, AB Volvo continues to lead as a key player in sustainable commercial vehicle manufacturing and related services, driven by innovation in electrification, digitalization, and energy solutions aimed at long-term climate goals and customer value creation.
