Viasat, Inc. (NasdaqGS: VSAT) provides satellite communications services and broadband solutions worldwide. The company offers high-speed satellite broadband internet access to residential and enterprise customers; in-flight connectivity services for commercial and business aviation; maritime connectivity solutions including managed Wi-Fi and NexusWave; narrowband safety and operational data services; mobile broadband and narrowband communications; tactical communications, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance systems, and beyond-line-of-sight capabilities for defense and government applications; satellite terminals, antennas, modems, and ground systems; cybersecurity and information assurance products such as high-assurance IP encryption; space systems including GEO, LEO, and MEO satellites, payloads, and antenna technologies; and networking, IoT, and enterprise connectivity platforms. Viasat operates through its Communication Services and Defense and Advanced Technologies segments across the United States, Europe, Brazil, the Middle East, Africa, and other international markets, serving residential consumers, airlines, energy firms, militaries, and governments. Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Carlsbad, California, the company maintains international headquarters in London following its integration of acquired assets. Recent developments include the 2023 completion of its $7.3 billion acquisition of Inmarsat, enhancing global L-band, S-band, and Ka-band capabilities in aviation, maritime, and government sectors; divestiture of its Energy Services Systems Integration business to MAG Capital Partners in December 2024; progression of the ViaSat-3 satellite constellation amid anomaly mitigation on the Americas satellite, with ongoing insurance recovery and bandwidth expansion efforts; strategic partnerships such as high-speed Wi-Fi deployment with Satélite Norte on Brazilian public buses, expansions with Aeroméxico and STARLUX Airlines for in-flight connectivity, and a $4.8 billion U.S. Space Force contract; and a September 2024 issuance of $2 billion in senior secured notes, upsized to $1.975 billion, to refinance debt and support growth.
