Business
Webster Financial Corporation (NYSE: WBS), founded in 1935 and headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, serves as the holding company for Webster Bank, National Association, a leading regional commercial bank with over $75 billion in assets that delivers financial solutions to businesses, individuals, families, and partners across the Northeast United States, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and metro New York. The company operates through three differentiated lines of business: Commercial Banking, which provides lending, deposit, treasury and payment solutions, commercial real estate financing, asset-based lending, equipment finance, capital markets, and capital finance services primarily to middle-market companies with annual revenues greater than $20 million; Consumer Banking, which offers checking and savings accounts, mortgages, personal loans, online and mobile banking, and services through a network of approximately 200 banking centers and 350 ATMs along the I-95 corridor from Boston to New York; and Healthcare Financial Services, encompassing HSA Bank, a national provider of health savings accounts and employee benefits solutions, and Ametros, a professional administrator of medical insurance claim settlements via its CareGuard service and technology platform. Recent strategic developments include the November 2025 announcement of a definitive agreement to acquire Ametros for $350 million, expected to close in early 2026 pending regulatory approval, enhancing Webster's deposit-gathering capabilities and Healthcare Financial Services segment following the prior interLINK acquisition; in September 2024, the company divested its factoring portfolio to SLR Business Credit for approximately $115 million to streamline its specialty finance operations. Webster also maintains a Private Banking division offering wealth advisory, investment management, tailored lending, fiduciary, and banking services to high-net-worth individuals and institutions, underscoring its commitment to diversified, values-driven growth in commercial banking, consumer services, and specialized healthcare financing.
