Business
Woodside Energy Group Ltd engages in the exploration, development, production, and marketing of oil, natural gas, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The company operates across three strategic pillars: oil, including the Enfield, Vincent, Pyrenees, and Ngujima-Yin fields offshore Western Australia; gas and LNG, encompassing the North West Shelf Project, Pluto LNG, Scarborough gas field development, and the under-construction Woodside Louisiana LNG (formerly Driftwood LNG) terminal in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, with capacity for 27.6 million tonnes per annum; and new energy initiatives focused on lower-carbon solutions such as hydrogen and ammonia. Woodside supplies LNG primarily to Asian markets and global customers, with additional activities in crude oil, pipeline gas, and condensate; it maintains exploration and production interests in Australia, the United States Gulf of Mexico, Canada, Senegal (Sangomar project), Timor-Leste (Greater Sunrise), South Korea, New Zealand, Myanmar, Cameroon, Gabon, Morocco, and Ireland. Founded in 1954 and headquartered in Perth, Western Australia, the company employs over 4,500 people and delivers more than 7,000 LNG cargoes internationally since 1989. In recent developments, Woodside completed its merger with BHP's petroleum business in 2022, enhancing its global scale; acquired Tellurian Inc. and the Driftwood LNG project in 2024 for US$1.2 billion enterprise value, targeting final investment decision in 2025; purchased a blue ammonia project in Texas from OCI Global in 2024 for US$2.35 billion; and in April 2025 sold a 40% stake in Louisiana LNG Infrastructure LLC to Stonepeak for US$5.7 billion while securing a gas supply agreement with BP for up to 640 billion cubic feet starting 2029.
