Zijin Mining Group Company Limited operates as a large global mining group focused on the exploration, mining, processing, smelting, and refining of metals including gold, copper, zinc, lead, lithium, silver, molybdenum, and platinum group metals; it produces gold concentrates and refined gold, copper cathodes and concentrates, zinc and lead products, lithium and battery materials, silver, and other precious and base metals through operations spanning Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. Headquartered in Longyan, Fujian Province, China, and founded in 1986 as Shanghang Mineral Company before restructuring into its current form, the company lists on the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges with significant state-owned ownership via Shanghang Minxi Xinghang State-Owned Property Investment Company. Zijin maintains a diversified portfolio of flagship assets such as the Zijinshan Gold and Copper Mine in Fujian, Julong Copper Mine in Tibet, Duobaoshan Copper Mine in Heilongjiang, Bor Copper Complex and Čukaru Peki Copper-Gold Mine in Serbia, Kamoa-Kakula Copper Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Akyem Gold Mine in Ghana, Raygorodok Gold Mine in Kazakhstan, Buriticá Gold Mine in Colombia, Rosebel Gold Mine in Suriname, Porgera Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea, and Tres Quebradas lithium project in Argentina, among others; it also engages in engineering, procurement, construction services, trading, logistics, and in-house research for mining solutions targeting industrial, electronics, jewelry, renewable energy, electric vehicle, and investment markets. In recent developments, Zijin acquired a controlling 24.82% stake in Zangge Mining for RMB 13.729 billion in January 2025, securing absolute control over the world-class Julong Copper Mine and adding high-quality copper, lithium, and potash assets in Xizang and Qinghai; it completed the US$1.2 billion purchase of Kazakhstan's Raygorodok Gold Mine in 2025, marking its largest acquisition in six years and entry into the country. The company acquired Newmont's Akyem Gold Mine in Ghana for up to US$1 billion in 2024, expanded in Africa with a 9.9% stake and funding in Montage Gold's Koné project in Côte d'Ivoire, and listed its international gold unit Zijin Gold International on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in September 2025 to consolidate overseas gold assets including Akyem and support further expansion. Zijin continues aggressive global growth through strategic investments like the Kharmagtai copper-gold project in Mongolia and Río Blanco copper-molybdenum project in Peru, alongside innovations in AI-driven mining, biological heap leaching, direct lithium extraction, and automated sorting to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions.
