Business
Aecon Group Inc. is a leading North American construction and infrastructure development company that provides integrated solutions to private and public-sector clients through its Construction segment, encompassing civil infrastructure, urban transportation, nuclear power, utilities, and conventional industrial sectors; and its Concessions segment, which focuses on the development, financing, building, operation, and maintenance of projects via public-private partnerships. The company offers a broad range of services including heavy civil engineering, bridge and highway construction, rail and transit systems, nuclear facility upgrades and small modular reactors, high-voltage transmission and distribution, telecommunications infrastructure, industrial fabrication and maintenance, asphalt and aggregate materials production, and pre-fabrication from eight company-owned facilities. Founded in 1867 with origins tracing back to a plumbing and gas fitting business in Hamilton, Ontario, Aecon is headquartered in Toronto, Canada, and operates primarily in Canada and the United States, with selective international projects in regions such as the Caribbean. Recent strategic expansions include the October 2024 acquisition of United Engineers & Constructors for US$33 million to bolster nuclear capabilities; the August 2025 purchase of Bodell Construction, enhancing industrial services in oil and gas, mining, water, wastewater, and power generation across the western and southern U.S.; the September 2025 acquisition of Trinity Industrial Services, adding maintenance, capital projects, turnarounds, and fabrication expertise in the U.S. Gulf Coast; and the November 2025 agreement to acquire KPC Power Electrical and KPC Energy Metering Solutions, expanding high-voltage testing, commissioning, and metering solutions for Ontario utilities. These moves strengthen recurring revenues, deepen U.S. market penetration, and position Aecon for growth in energy transition, grid modernization, and nuclear opportunities, including partnerships for small modular reactors at Energy Northwest and the Port of Montreal expansion.
