Business
Asahi Kasei Corp. (AHKSF) manufactures and markets a broad portfolio of chemicals, materials, homes, and healthcare products worldwide. Founded in 1931 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company operates through three primary sectors: Materials, which encompasses basic chemicals such as acrylonitrile, ethylene, and caustic soda; performance products including high-performance resins like LEONA polyamide and TENAC polyacetal, fibers, electronics materials such as photosensitive polyimides and semiconductor components, clean energy materials, and optical materials; Homes, centered on Hebel Haus unit homes, Hebel autoclaved aerated concrete panels, Neoma Foam phenolic foam insulation, foundation systems, and steel-frame structural components along with remodeling and real estate services; and Healthcare, featuring medical devices for blood purification and transfusion including Planova virus removal filters and leukocyte reduction filters, bioprocess products, critical care solutions such as defibrillators, automated CPR systems, and temperature management devices, pharmaceuticals in orthopedics and urology, and diagnostic reagents. The company serves diverse markets including automotive, construction, electronics, medical, and consumer sectors across Japan, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania. In late 2025, Asahi Kasei entered an absorption-type merger agreement with Teijin Ltd. to integrate its wholly owned subsidiary Asahi Kasei Advance Corp. with Teijin Frontier Co. Ltd., creating a joint venture owned 20% by Asahi Kasei and 80% by Teijin effective October 1, 2026, aimed at combining textile and materials distribution platforms for sustainable growth; earlier in 2024, it announced the acquisition of Calliditas Therapeutics AB to bolster its global pharmaceuticals capabilities; and as part of its "Trailblaze Together" medium-term plan, it exited the methyl methacrylate monomer business while expanding capacity for photosensitive polyimides to prioritize high-growth areas in healthcare, critical care, and semiconductor materials.
