Business
Alto Ingredients, Inc. Alto Ingredients, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALTO) produces and distributes specialty alcohols, renewable fuels, and essential ingredients derived primarily from corn through dry-milling processes at facilities in the United States. The company operates in three segments—Marketing and Distribution, Pekin Campus Production, and Western Production—offering specialty alcohols including high-purity grades (USP, grain neutral spirits, FCC) for mouthwash, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, hand sanitizers, disinfectants, cleaners in health, home, and beauty markets; grain neutral spirits and corn germ for alcoholic beverages, vinegar, and corn oils in food and beverage markets; alcohols and related products for paints, fertilizers in industrial and agriculture markets; essential ingredients such as dried yeast, corn protein meal, corn protein feed, corn germ, distillers grains, and liquid feed for commercial animal feed, pet food, and aquaculture, plus yeast and liquid CO2 for human consumption; and renewable fuels comprising fuel-grade ethanol as a gasoline additive and distillers corn oil as feedstock for renewable diesel and biodiesel. Alto Ingredients, Inc. markets products from its facilities and third parties, provides transportation, storage, and delivery services via third-party providers, and serves major food and beverage companies, consumer products firms, fuel blenders, refiners, dairies, feedlots, and export markets across health, home and beauty; food and beverage; essential ingredients; and renewable fuels sectors. Founded in 2003 as Pacific Ethanol, Inc. in Sacramento, California, the company, headquartered at 1300 South Second Street in Pekin, Illinois, rebranded to Alto Ingredients in 2021 following strategic divestitures of ethanol plants to focus on higher-margin specialty products and underwent a 2015 merger with Aventine Renewable Energy to expand Midwest capacity; most recently, its subsidiary Alto Carbonic, LLC acquired Kodiak Carbonic, LLC—a beverage-grade liquid CO2 processor adjacent to its Columbia, Oregon facility—for $7.25 million in cash plus working capital on January 1, 2025, securing an improved long-term CO2 sales contract with a leading gas supplier to boost earnings, de-risk cash flows, enhance distribution efficiency, expand margins, and strengthen asset valuation through optimized CO2 operations from its ethanol production byproduct.
