Business
Amedisys, Inc. (AMED) operates as a leading provider of home-based healthcare services in the United States, delivering home health, hospice, palliative, and high-acuity care to patients nationwide. Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with an additional executive office in Nashville, Tennessee, the company offers skilled nursing; physical, occupational, and speech therapy; medical social work; home health aides; personal care services including companion care, homemaker services, and live-in care; hospice care encompassing pain and symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, and bereavement counseling; palliative care for symptom relief and quality-of-life enhancement; and high-acuity care through its Contessa Health division featuring IV therapy, wound care, remote patient monitoring, and telehealth for hospital-level needs at home. Amedisys serves patients recovering from illness or surgery, those with chronic conditions, and individuals with life-limiting illnesses, primarily through Medicare reimbursement, across a network of care centers that supports over 499,000 patients annually with approximately 19,000 employees. As of August 14, 2025, Amedisys functions as a subsidiary of Optum, Inc., following Optum's $3.3 billion acquisition completed after regulatory settlement requiring divestiture of 164 locations; certain divested home health and hospice assets, generating $187 million in revenue from 54 locations, were acquired by Pennant Group in late 2025, while others went to BrightSpring, marking a major restructuring to facilitate the UnitedHealth Group integration.
