The company serves retail, corporate and small-to-medium enterprise customers across its three core pillars of life, non-life and asset management, with operations spanning over 50 countries through five business units comprising Italy; Germany, Austria and Switzerland; France and Global Business Activities; International; and Asset & Wealth Management. Founded in 1831 and headquartered in Trieste, Italy, Generali maintains a leading position in Europe with growing presence in Asia, Latin America and central-eastern Europe. In recent developments, Generali completed the integration of Liberty Seguros, its largest acquisition in a decade following the January 2024 purchase, strengthening its non-life market leadership in Spain, Portugal, Ireland and Northern Ireland; launched Generali Lion River Capital Partners SGR in 2025 through its Dutch unit to expand private equity fund management; and announced a memorandum of understanding with BPCE in January 2025 to form a 50-50 joint venture combining asset management operations into one of Europe's largest platforms with approximately €1.9 trillion in assets under management. The group also advanced its Lifetime Partner 27: Driving Excellence strategy with initiatives like the Next Level plan for Global Corporate & Commercial lines, focusing on specialty products, cyber risks and parametric solutions, while reporting record gross written premiums of €95.2 billion and an operating result of €7.3 billion for 2024.
