Business
Renova Energia S.A. is a Brazil-based renewable power generation company primarily engaged in the development, construction, operation, and commercialization of electricity from renewable energy resources. Founded in 2001 and headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil, the company operates across the Brazilian electric power sector with utility-scale generation assets primarily located in the northeastern and southeastern regions, notably in the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais. The company's core products and operational services comprise: utility-scale wind power generation, anchored by large-scale wind farm assets within the Alto Sertão wind energy complex; small hydroelectric power plants (Pequenas Centrais Hidrelétricas - PCHs), including operating run-of-river hydro concessions such as Serra da Prata and Currupira; solar photovoltaic power generation and project development; electric power commercialization and trading, delivering electricity to public distribution utilities through the regulated electricity market (Ambiente de Contratação Regulada - ACR) as well as to corporate and industrial off-takers via bilateral power purchase agreements in the free electricity market (Ambiente de Contratação Livre - ACL); renewable energy project pipeline development, encompassing wind and solar resource prospecting, anemometric and solarimetric data collection, topography and micro-siting, environmental licensing, and grid feasibility studies; and the engineering, procurement, and maintenance of high-voltage transmission lines and substation infrastructure integrated into Brazil's National Interconnected System (Sistema Interligado Nacional - SIN). Renova Energia operates through dedicated segments including Wind Power, Small Hydroelectric Plants, and Solar Energy, serving regulated electric utility distributors, institutional energy traders, and industrial and commercial power consumers across Brazil. In recent developments, Renova Energia has undergone significant corporate, financial, and operational restructuring under the execution of its Judicial Recovery (Recuperação Judicial) plan. The company achieved the operational ramp-up and commercial generation rollout of its flagship Alto Sertão III Phase A wind complex following structural debt renegotiations and specialized debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing arrangements with institutional investors. In parallel, the company has executed strategic asset sales involving isolated productive units (UPIs) and non-core development pipelines to optimize its balance sheet and settle liabilities with financial institutions, debenture holders, and operational suppliers. Renova Energia has also implemented capital reorganization measures, including capital increases and debt-for-equity restructurings, while repositioning its ongoing business strategy to focus on operational uptime, asset reliability, regulatory alignment with the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) and the Electric Power Commercialization Chamber (CCEE), and the selective optimization of its existing renewable asset portfolio.
