Empresa Eléctrica de Magallanes S.A. (EDELMAG) is a Chilean vertically integrated electric utility company engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electrical energy. Operating across the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region, the company manages four isolated, non-interconnected electrical subsystems serving residential, commercial, industrial, and public sector clients in Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales, Porvenir, and Puerto Williams. EDELMAG's core products and services comprise thermal electricity generation utilizing natural gas and diesel fuel turbine units; high- and medium-voltage electricity transmission systems and transformer substations; regulated and unregulated low-voltage power distribution; power metering, grid connection, and remote system dispatching services; technical network maintenance and emergency restoration services; and public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure solutions. Tracing its operational origins to 1897 with the establishment of Compañía de Luz Eléctrica de Punta Arenas and formally incorporated in 1982, EDELMAG is headquartered in Punta Arenas, Chile, and operates as a subsidiary of CGE Magallanes S.A. within the corporate group of Compañía General de Electricidad S.A. and State Grid Corporation of China. In recent operational developments, EDELMAG has executed multi-billion-peso capital investment plans focused on grid reliability and generation capacity enhancements, including turbine upgrades at the Tres Puentes thermal power plant in Punta Arenas and expanded generation capacity in Puerto Natales. In addition, the company has advanced regional energy transition and decarbonization initiatives through the development of the Río Guerrico run-of-river mini-hydroelectric project in Puerto Williams, implemented automated telecontrol systems across its isolated distribution grids, and expanded its multi-city public electromobility charging network across southern Patagonia.
