- Grupo Argos S.A. is a Colombia-based infrastructure investment holding company engaged in the production and distribution of building materials, electric power generation and distribution, road and airport concessions management, and real estate urban development. Founded in 1934 and headquartered in Medellín, Colombia, the company operates across the Americas through four principal business divisions: Cement, Energy, Concessions, and Real Estate Development.
In its Cement segment, operated primarily through its publicly traded subsidiary Cementos Argos S.A., the company manufactures and distributes gray and white Portland cement; ready-mix concrete; mortar; aggregates such as crushed stone, gravel, and sand; clinker; and specialized building solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, and civil infrastructure construction markets across Colombia, the Caribbean, Central America, and the United States. In its Energy segment, conducted through Celsia S.A., Grupo Argos develops, operates, and commercializes conventional and renewable electricity; operates hydroelectric power stations, utility-scale solar photovoltaic farms, and thermal generation plants; provides electricity transmission and retail distribution services to residential, commercial, and industrial clients; and delivers behind-the-meter energy efficiency, solar rooftop installations, energy storage, and fiber-optic telecommunications infrastructure. In its Concessions segment, managed through Odinsa S.A., the company designs, finances, constructs, and operates transportation infrastructure assets; manages major toll highway networks; and operates international aviation hubs, including El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia, and Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito, Ecuador. In its Real Estate Development unit, the company manages urban planning, commercial real estate portfolios, industrial land banks, and commercial forestry plantations.
Recent corporate developments include the execution of a landmark ownership restructuring agreement that unwound the historical cross-shareholding structure within the Grupo Empresarial Antioqueño conglomerate alongside Grupo Sura, JGDB Holding, Nugil, and IHC Capital Holding, whereby Grupo Argos divested its equity interest in food producer Grupo Nutresa S.A. in exchange for the exit of JGDB and Nugil from Grupo Argos's shareholder base, solidifying its focus as a dedicated infrastructure vehicle. Additionally, its subsidiary Cementos Argos S.A. completed the strategic combination of its United States business operations with Summit Materials, Inc. in a multi-billion dollar transaction, positioning Cementos Argos as a significant shareholder in Summit Materials while strengthening its core Latin American operations. Furthermore, through Odinsa, the company expanded its co-investment infrastructure platform with Macquarie Asset Management to jointly manage, finance, and expand airport and toll road concession assets across the Americas. In energy, Celsia continues its strategic portfolio transition toward decarbonization through the expansion of solar photovoltaic generation capacity and the selective divestment of non-core generation and transmission assets.
